“So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad.”
Ecclesiastes 8:15

Eat, drink, and be merry simply means to be grateful for the life God has given us. This phrase comes from Ecclesiastes 8 where King Solomon is commanding his people to live an upright life in accordance with God’s law.
We take so much for granted. But during this time of year especially, it’s important to take a minute and pause to give thanks for the blessings we have. We have an entire day set aside to just be in the presence of the ones we love. We come together to share a meal and reflect on how great our God truly is.
Somehow commercialism has tried to push Thanksgiving off the calendar. We go straight from Halloween to Christmas because there’s nothing to market. I think this is the best holiday because there are no gifts to buy or expectations to be met. All we need is a grateful heart and a giving spirit.
1 Chronicles 16:34 reminds us, “Oh give thinks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.” I know every day is a gift and I’m so thankful for the blessings the Lord has given me. I know the good in me is only through His grace, His amazing grace.
