Have the wind knocked out of your sails

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 15:57

Have the wind knocked out of your sails means to lose your confidence, enthusiasm, or determination about something. This idiom is metaphorically comparing our emotions to sailing ships which capture wind to move forward.
It’s so difficult not to allow our circumstances to determine our demeanor. Scripture tells us our confidence comes from the Lord and our joy is complete in Him but when we experience setbacks, it’s sometimes hard to remain positive. I was so excited about my upcoming book signing and when it got cancelled, I felt discouraged.
As believers, we are constantly being molded into the image of Christ. The bolder we become in our walk, the more we will be attacked spiritually because the enemy wants us to believe we are unworthy, weak, and inadequate. I know God has a plan for my life and I can’t allow the obstacles to deter me from doing His will.
When I got up this morning, I was still disappointed but when I read my devotion, it was all about finding our victory in Jesus. When we trust in Him, we’re able to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps to complete what He has laid on our heart. This is the second time I wrote this devotion because when I copied it to put on my site, it disappeared into the unknown and I didn’t know how to retrieve it. I wanted to just close my computer and cry but I remembered God renews us and puts the wind back in our sails.
