See the light of day

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Matthew 5:14

See the light of day means something is born, published, or available for the public to view. This phrase dates back to the 1600’s originally referring to the transformation of someone when they’re born again; receiving the “light” of Jesus in their lives.

Lighthouse’s fascinate me. Originally, they were built to signify ports but as transatlantic commerce became more prevalent, they were erected along dangerous coastlines to keep ships from running aground. Lighthouses were designed as a tower so the beacon of light would radiate to signify impending danger.

When I’m in the middle of a storm, it’s difficult to see the end. The uncertainties began to overwhelm me when I don’t continue to focus on the Lord. We have to remember God doesn’t keep us from turbulent times but it’s the presence of Christ during those troubles which restore us and give us peace. When we seek the Lord, His light radiates in us allowing others to see His grace through us during those difficult times. We have the blessed assurance God keeps His promises and He will never forsake us.

We, as believers are much like a lighthouse. John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” We have the power to overcome the darkness because God has called us to be a beacon of His light. As Christ followers, our purpose is now for everyone to see the light of day in us so they too will accept Jesus. Because we’re empowered by the Holy Spirit, we’re able to withstand the storms of life and stand firm in our faith. When we seek His guidance and wisdom, a spiritual renewal occurs drawing us closer to Him.

About Me

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
