Stay in your lane

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
James 1:5

Stay in your lane has two distinct meanings, one is not interfering with someone else’s business and the other is to be good at something and sticking with it.
Bowling is a fun family activity that everyone can enjoy but it can also be very frustrating. I remember how defeated the kids would get when their ball would repeatedly go into the gutter. To encourage the fun to continue, a bumper was raised to prevent the ball from going off the wooden surface.
We had a discussion the other night about what is the righteousness of God. Do we become righteous when we accept Jesus or is it something we work towards? I believe we’re a work in progress striving to become righteous. Scripture talks about physically putting on the breastplate of righteousness in Ephesians 6:14. We have to make a choice to do what is right. Righteous living is equated with being aligned with God’s Word and reflected in our character.
God’s Word is the bumper to keep us on a righteous path; to give us encouragement, comfort, and peace when we’re confused, scared, or anxious. Our conscience guides us to seek biblical wisdom and discourages us from going astray. When Scripture is implanted in our heart, it acts as a shield to repel the evil forces set out to snare us. Surrendering our will allows God to strengthen our inadequacies so we can stay in our lane. Through prayer, we’re given peace confirming we’re in God’s will and not our own.
