You hung the moon

“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,

The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,”

 Psalm 8:3(NKJV)

You hung the moon is a term of endearment said to someone who is extremely loved, admired, or adored. The origin is unclear but this metaphorically compares the admiration we have for the moon with the affection we dote on one another.

The people around us, influence our behavior. If we’re fortunate enough, we’ve had someone in our lives whom we’ve looked up to and aspired to be. Someone with integrity and a godly character. I’ve been blessed by several influential people who fit the bill. A special Sunday school teacher, an aunt who doted her affection on me, and the precious neighbor who led me to Christ, just to name a few.

Whether we acknowledge it or not, most of us are either mentoring someone or being mentored. There is a divine connection among believers which gives us the desire to grow spiritually. Paul reiterates this in the book of 1 Timothy with the introduction of a young Timothy who is revered as his “true son in the faith”. Paul has taken Timothy under his wing and using his hindsight from past experiences to groom Timothy for his future ministry. This is a beautiful illustration of how we’re to interact with fellow believers. We all need someone to be accountable to. Someone who will call us out when our lips are loose, we grumble too much, or we need encouragement.

So for those special people in our lives who have hung the moon, we need to show our  gratitude and not take their inspiration for granted. I love how the Lord places special ones in our paths to bless us with their positive influence to teach us how to bless others.

About Me

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
